Do students receive career placement assistance upon
graduation?
We are proud of our
career development department and the vast number of career opportunities
awaiting our graduates.
Career development is
a vital part of Gretna Career College. Job placement is how GCC measures
success for both its students and itself. Career planning begins with the
onset of training. From the time a student enrolls at GCC, the primary
emphasis is on employability and success in the workplace. The nature of
each program is to simulate the work environment, to provide hands on skills
training to industry standards, and to develop job readiness skills. Since building your career is a team effort involving both you and the Career Services Office, Gretna Career College cannot guarantee employment. The
college provides a full array of career development and placement services.
-
Orientation--During
orientation students become acquainted with career opportunities and
employer expectations. Students discuss program objectives, career goals
and aspirations with faculty and staff. Orientation enables the students
to reaffirm their commitment to obtain a quality career education by
partnering with Gretna Career College.
-
Effective Resume Writing Techniques--Proper
resume development is the initial step in conducting a well-planned job
search. Students will construct resumes that demonstrate newly acquired
skills, experience, and expertise in their chosen career path. The Career
Services Office will present a resume writing workshop during your time at
GCC.
-
Effective Interviewing Techniques--Interviewing
techniques include making a positive first impression and building on that
impression. The confidence students develop during GCC's career training
will be projected during the interviews with employers. The Career
Services Office offers individualized sessions on interview training.
-
Interview Opportunities—Gretna
Career College will assist with employment contacts during their final
phase of professional training. Many of our graduates obtain employment
upon completion of their program. The positions students and graduates
receive are often not advertised publicly but rather through job leads
obtained by the Career Services Office.
-
Externships—(when applicable)
This career transition
phase of the program allows students to begin using their newly acquired
skills on the job, while still within the framework of the academic
environment. The extern phase combines work experience with support
services during this critical and challenging time. The Career Services
Office generates extern sites by networking with local employers and with
leads provided by program instructors and students alike. Many graduates
are hired by their extern sites.
-
Career-Long Placement--Placement
assistance is always available to alumni even after working in the
industry.
Career preparation is provided
throughout the duration of your training by instructors, the student advisor
and the career development coordinator. This team will help you with your
detailed job search during the last phase of your program. Companies are
looking for serious employees. GCC graduates are prepared to meet the
challenges of the workplace.
Since building your career is a team effort involving both you and the
Career Services Office, Gretna Career College cannot guarantee employment.

Admissions
How
to start?
The admission process
starts with a prospective student calling the college. Each prospective
student is then invited to the College and given an individual tour. During
the visit, the Admissions Representative finds out the person's career needs
and desires.
The Representative
presents information on the chosen career. Non-high school graduates who
have the ability to benefit from the College's career courses are encouraged
to apply. After the admissions interview, the student will initiate the
enrollment process and fill out the necessary paperwork.
Students wishing to
apply for financial aid will have an appointment with the campus Financial
Aid Officer after completing the admissions process for the College. Each
student will be provided with a copy of his or her application and financial
aid package.
Students will be
notified of their acceptance as soon as possible after submitting the
application.

Financial Aid
You
don't have to be disadvantaged to receive financial assistance!
Whether a student is
eligible for assistance, and how much, is determined by the need of the
particular student. Each student is different. The College makes an
evaluation of the individual, privately and impartially, assisting each and
every student. Financial Aid program guidelines are set by the United States
Department of Education. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. Gretna Career College participates in the following programs:
Federal
Pell Grants
This is a "grant" from the Federal Government that does not need to be
repaid. Eligibility for this grant is determined by the student's "financial
need."
Federal
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)
Another type of grant that does not need to be repaid. The amount of this
grant is also determined by the student's "financial need."
Direct Loans
Loans are made available to students. Some loans are administered directly
by the United States Department of Education. All loans need to be repaid
after graduation.
Federal Work Study
This self help program is awarded to students based on need and availability
of funds.
Tuition Payments to the College
Payments made directly to the College are interest free. Having good or bad
credit will not affect your eligibility for this type of loan or payment
arrangement.
Additional Funding
Education
assistance for eligible Veterans and their dependents.
